Abstract

1,173,384. Heat sealing covers on containers. ALUPAK A.G. 17 March, 1967 [18 March, 1966], No. 12783/67. Heading B8C. Both a lower tool 40, that holds a container 1, and an upper tool 50, which holds a lid being heat sealed along the flange 2, are cooled to prevent damage to the container contents. The tool 40 is raised around the container, which is stood on a plate 4, to locate it in recess 44 and press it into contact with a lid (3) (not shown) held against the face 56 of tool 50 by suction from a pipe 58. Cooling water flows through annular channels 64, 48 in the upper and lower tools respectively whilst a seal is effected by the tip 68 of heated jaw 66. An insert 47 of a poor conductivity material, or an insulated conducting insert, lies in the lower tool opposite the sealing tip 68. The lower tool may alternatively carry heated jaws.
