Abstract
1,172,373. Rolling. STEEL CO. OF WALES Ltd. 23 Feb., 1968 [28 Feb., 1967], No. 45833/66. Heading B3M. Apparatus, suitable for cooling or lubricating the roll of a rolling mill, comprises a curved member 30 which extends longitudinally of the roll and carries pads which contact the roll and which define passageways through which cooling or lubricating liquid can flow. The liquid, which is conveniently water, or oil and water, is supplied through a pipe to the rear of the member 30 and, after being guided through channels and then apertures in the member and through the passageways to the roll surface, it exits through further pipes 37. Extending longitudinally between the pads are blades of plastics material which scrape the roll surface and prevent the formation of a film of steam on the surface. Each end of the member 30 is carried by a threaded rod 25 which carries a bracket 22 attached to a fixed support. Adjustment of a spring-loaded nut 27 permits the loading of the member 30 against the roll to be varied.
