Abstract

PURPOSE:To cool down the temperature equivalent to the temperature rise owing to the rolling pass, when the rod is hot rolled in the block mill, by detachably attaching the cooling unit for injecting the cooling water over the outer surface of the rod, to the end of the cylindrical guide installed on the exit side of the roll. CONSTITUTION:Plural units of paired rolling rolls 2 are installed at a specified in- terval in the frame 1; the rod 3 is fed from the entrance of this frame 1, and the sectional area of the rod is successively reduced by the rolls. In the meantime, the cooling water is supplied from the water supply tubing 10 of te cooling unit; the cooling water makes volute flow in the water supply portion 16, and then, is injected from the injecting holes 15. The cooling water passes inside of the exit guide 4 and flows toward the rollig mill; the rod goes forward in the opposite direction against the flow of cooling water, so that the rod is cooled in the exit guide 4. According to this method, the circumference of the rod is uniformly cooled, and therefore, the scattering of temperature in the sectional and longitudinal directions of the rod hardly occurs.
