Abstract
PURPOSE:To keep a constant gap for passing the cooling water in order to always perform an efficient cooling of a rolling roll, by installing an upholding device for keeping a constant gap between the roll and a cooling vat, at both ends of the cooling vat. CONSTITUTION:A cooling vat 3 is installed under a work roll 2 parallelly to the axis of the work roll 2; a guide roll 14 is attached to each longitudinal end of the cooling vat 3 through a journal 12; the guide rolls 14 are pressed to both ends of the outer surface of the work roll 2. High-pressure cooling water is introduced from a water feed pipe 15 into a pressure chamber 4 of the cooling vat 3; the cooling water is then ejected through a slit nozzle 5 into a gap formed between the cooling vat 3 and the outer surface of the work roll 2 in order to cool the outer surface of the work roll 2. In the present constitution, the gap between the cooling vat 3 and the outer surface of the work roll 2 is preset to an optional size, which is then always held constant; hereby, a uniform and highly efficient cooling of the work roll 2 is attained.
