Abstract

1304023 Cooling and lubricating roller I PROPERZI 27 May 1970 [27 May 1969] 25516/70 Heading B3M Apparatus for varying the level of cooling and lubricating liquid in a rolling mill having a number of adjacent roll stands comprises cup or sump units 4 each unit having flanges 5 which are secured to the adjacent sides of each roll stand and a metal strap 7 fitted in grooves in the flanges to provide the cup or sump for receiving cooling and lubricating fluid, the level of the fluid 8a being adjusted by moving the strap 7 in the grooves to raise or lower the level of a weir 8. A block 14 attached to the end of the strap opposite to the weir has spring-loaded levers 17 which engage racks 16 in guides 15 to secure the strap in a selected position. Using the apparatus the rolled material can be kept immersed in the coolant or lubricant as it passes from one roll stand to the next thereby preventing oxidation.
