Abstract

1,171,855. Coating carbon with metal. SIEMENS A. G. March 28, 1967 [March 25, 1966], No. 14002/67. Heading C7D. Carbon bodies are coated with metals by depositing directly on the carbon surface at least one material selected from the group Mo, W, Ti, the ammonium salts and carbides of these metals, and the hydride of Ti, and heating the deposit by high frequency or electron beam e. g. to 900 ‹- 1400‹C. for 10-30 minutes. The material is preferably deposited in a finely divided form from a solution or suspension and sintered in hydrogen or a vacuum. Mo or its carbide may be deposited from a suspension in butyl acetate and a nitrocellulose binder.
