Abstract

1,170,840. Feeding webs. J. DUSENBERY CO. Inc. 6 Dec., 1967 [14 Dec., 1966], No. 55571/67. Heading B8R. A dancer-roller assembly for a web tension control system comprises two pairs of arms 35 and 37 pivotally mounted for simultaneous angular movement in opposite directions about parallel axes, a plurality of dancer rollers 40 to 43 carried by each pair of arms, and a pneumatic piston and cylinder arrangement 80 connected to a source of pressurized air 102 through an adjustable valve 103 for applying a constant biasing force tending to spread the arms apart. Shock absorbers (90, 94, Figs. 1 to 3) dampen the movement of the arms and a chain 63 limits their spread. A buffer spring 61 prevents the arms from closing completely, and a tension spring 65 holds the arms together when not in use. An air brake 101 on a supply roll 100 is controlled by means of a valve 96 having a plunger operable by a cam mechanism (53, Fig. 2) and lever 98 in accordance with the rotation of the pairs of arms. The web is advanced by feed rollers 24 and 76.
