Abstract
116,905. Cooper, Sir R. A., (trading as Cooper & Nephews, W.), and Edwards, K. B. March 27, 1917. Disinfectants.-High-boiling phenols are extracted from the oils obtained from shales, brown coal or lignite by treatment with caustic soda to. obtain a tar which is diluted with water to separate oils and treated with acid such as carbon dioxide contained in washed flue gases. The precipitated phenols are distilled or fractionated. Disinfectants are produced by mixing the phenols with soap such as potash soap of castor oil to which may be added hydrocarbons such as neutral tar oil, or by emulsifying with glue, casein, or other colloid.
