Abstract
1,168,787. Microscopes. W. WATSON & SONS Ltd. Jan. 13, 1967 [Oct. 14, 1965], No.43538/65. Heading G2J. In a microscope having a stage (7-9, Fig. 1, not shown) which is movable relative to the objective (3), in order to effect focusing, by means of a control knob 13 (which may be a fine and coarse control arrangement as described in Specification 1,168,786), and also having a substage condenser assembly (16) which is movable relative to the stage by means of a knob (17), the two shafts carrying the knobs (13, 17) are perpendicular to one another. Thus focusing may be effected by one hand and the thumb of the same hand used to manipulate the milled edge on knob (17) to move the sub-stage condenser assembly (16). This condenser lens is carried by a support 37, Fig. 2, on a bracket 15 fixed by screws 32 and dowel pins 33 to a movable male portion 19 of a dovetail slide engaging a fixed female portion 20 of the slide, the portion 20 being secured by screws and dowel pins 21 to a back plate 18 attached to the bracket supporting the stage. On rotating knob 17 by means of its milled edge a cam groove 28 controls the vertical position of a ball race cam follower 22 attached to the movable male portion 19 of the dovetail slide and thus of the condenser lens.
