Abstract
819,900. Optical microscopes. BAKER OF HOLBORN Ltd., C., and CURTIES, M. G. L. April 30, 1957 [April 30, 1956], No. 13262/56. Class 97(1) An optical microscope has two upright pillars extending upwardly from the base to support respectively the opposed sides of a slide member on which the lens tube is mounted. As shown in the horizontal section through the microscope in Fig. 2, the pillars 13, 14 have rearwardly projecting arms 15 and 16, and further arms 17 and 18 directed toward each other and interconnected by a web 19. The lens tube is carried by a slide-member 22 attached to the U-shaped member 26 which slides vertically between the pillars on ball bearings 28 consisting of linear races 31 and 32. The sub-stage condenser unit 37 is similarly ball mounted for vertical adjustment. The microscope stage 65 is adapted for horizontal adjustment in one direction, and a clip member is provided for independently moving the slide in a direction perpendicular to this by means of two sets of ball mountings. Movement of the various members is achieved by the manually operable knobs such as 63, 41, and 73- shown on the front of the box like member 12 of the microscope-in conjunction with mechanical means described in Specification 819,899. The knob 20 controls the intensity of the light illuminating the specimen and the pillars 13 and 14 carry hollow doors 83, 84 which totally enclose the microscope when shut and have racks 88 for storing accessories.
