Abstract
200,777. Taylor, W., and Kapella, Ltd. Sept. 2, 1922. Microscopes of the kind described in Specification 196,948 are built up of mechanical and optical elements, mutually adapted for attachment to and combination with one another in various ways, so as to be adjustable for building various kinds of optical instruments. A series of microscopes is described built up of such elements, and includes both simple and compound microscopes, the latter being fixed or inclinable. The microscope shown in Fig. 4 together with the eyepieces shown in Fig. 5 include the whole of the constructional details. A tubular holder B formed of sheet metal with one edge raised and overlapping the other so as to yieldingly hold the lens cells of the eyepieces and objectives, is mounted in a cradle element b<8> comprising an angle plate of sheet metal carried on a stud on the bracket D round which it is free to turn to incline the tubular holder B. The brecket D is supported by a pillar b<2> provided with stamped metal feet c. A second pillar portion attached to the cradle b<8> carries the stage E and substage e<9>, adapted to receive the lensholder e containing lenses to serve as a sub-stage condenser. A reflector F fitted to the upper end of the tubular holder B acts as a camera lucida. The eyepiece, Fig. 5 may serve as a simple microscope and the holder B detached from the bracket D will serve as a non-inclinable compound microscope.
