Abstract
1,168,685. Electrolytic anti-corrosion treatment for iron or steel. NIPPON KOKAN K. K. Sept.6, 1967, No. 40662/67. Heading C7B. An anti-corrosion surface treatment for iron or steel comprises electrolytically reducing an aqueous solution containing a hexavalent chromium compound and a thiocyanate compound using the iron or steel as the cathode to form a coating layer containing hydrated trivalent chromium oxide on the iron or steel surface. The solution may contain 20-300 g Cro 3 per litre and ammonium, sodium or potassium thiocyanate in a concentration from 0À02 to 0À005 that of the Cr compound. Temperatures of 45-60‹C may be used. Prior to the anti-corrosion treatment, the iron or steel may be electrolytically degreased in an alkaline aqueous solution, water washed, electrolytically pickled in H 2 SO 4 and water washed. After the anti-corrosion treatment, the surface may be coated with a paint, e.g. one based on melamine resin.
