Abstract
1,168,364. Producing metals. ZAKLADY HUTNICZO-PRZETWORCZE METALI NIEZELAZNYCH "HUTMEN". Nov.10, 1967 [Nov.14, 1966], No.51169/67. Heading C7D. A non-ferrous metal compound (e.g. an oxide) is reduced to the free metal (e.g. Sn, Pb or Cu) by mixing a charge containing the non-ferrous metal compound with a flux, heating the mixture to 1100 to 1400‹C. and adding CaC 2 to the heated mixture. After the addition of the CaC 2 the reduction may be effected at 1100 to 1300‹C. The charge may be a slag, ash or ore. The flux may be borates of alkali metals, borax, boric anhydride or soda. The reduction may be run in an air furnace and the furnace content may be stirred.
