Abstract

1,168,351. Ladle stoppers. MORGANITE CRUCIBLE Ltd. 13 Feb., 1968 [15 Feb., 1967], No. 7287/67. Heading F4B. A ladle stopper comprises a plumbago stopper head 5 with a curved base 6 connected to a stopper rod 2 by a screwed bolt 9 bearing against the flange 12 of a white refractory bush 11 separated by a fibre washer 13 from the rod flange 3. A wider end 7 of the stopper head bore is plugged with a refractory current 14 of low thermal conductivity. In a modification (Fig. 2) a smaller stopper head 5 of substantially hemispherical shape is provided, the bush being of frusto-conical shape. In another modification (Fig. 3) the head of bolt 9 is surrounded by a pair of white refractory rings of hexagonal shape corresponding to said head.
