Abstract

936,558. Ladle stoppers. VESUVIUS CRUCIBLE CO. Jan. 3, 1962 [Jan. 16, 1961], No. 221/62. Class 82 [Also in Group XXII] A stopper for a ladle comprises a refractory head having a well extending downwardly thereinto, and a stopper rod, the two being connected by a stem which is moved into a retained position in the well, the upper end of the stem being above the end of the stopper head and attached to the lower end of the stopper rod. In the embodiments shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 6, stem 5 screws into the recess in the stopper head, whereas in Figs. 2 and 4 it is shown as being attached by a bayonet slot fitting, and in Fig. 5 it consists of two parts 15, possessing flanges 16 which engage in recesses 17 in the well, the two parts being kept in place by keeper 18. The stem may be attached to the rod or an integral inverted cup on the bottom thereof by a screwed joint, bayonet slot, or by means of a pin.
