An electrical transformer comprises a highvoltage winding, composed of an input layer with further layers outside it, all surrounding flanged screens 9, 19, 20 with successively larger outward-turned flanges 9<SP>1</SP>, 19<SP>1</SP>, 20<SP>1</SP>, and a low-voltage winding 10, which is surrounded by the high-voltage winding and the screens. Insulation is by paper cylinders with annular flanges at their ends, and the screens 9, 19, 20 may be interrupted cylinders of electrically conductive paper or of metal. Flange 9<SP>1</SP> has the smaller outer diameter end screen 9, which is continuous with it, is connected to the high-voltage input of the high-voltage winding. Other screens may be connected to intermediate points on the highvoltage winding. Further electrically conductive material, in the form of, for example, conductive sheathings on annular discs, may be incorporated in the insulation adjacent the flanges. Oil passages within the insulation may be bridged by placing screens either side of such a passage and connecting them electrically. Screens may also be included in low-voltage winding 10, with inward-turned flanges, and may be incorporated in the insulation separating the various layers of the high-voltage winding.
