Abstract

934,091. Induction coils. WIRA G.m.b.H. Nov. 8, 1961 [Nov. 9, 1960], No. 39925/61. Class 38 (2). [Also in Group XXVII] An ignition transformer comprises a primary winding 10 of bare copper tape interleaved with insulating material (Fig. 3, not shown) on the wound internal iron core 13 on a tubular former 8 with flange 16, a secondary winding 11 on former 9 shaped as shown in the Figure to surround the primary 10, and the lid 18 which centralises the outer wound iron core 14, the whole arrangement being hermetically sealed in and screened by the metal casing 15, 21. The formers and lid may be of one of a number of thermoplastics. One end of each winding is earthed, the primary input 15 passes through the glass bushing 20, and the secondary terminal 22 is in the centre of the formers and spaced 0.5 to 1 mm. from the terminal 23 of a sparking plug 24 on which the transformer is mounted by the member 25, thus forming an auxiliary spark gap to give more reliable operation. The primary winding and core are impregnated with plastics varnish to give mechanical strength. The secondary winding is arranged with adjacent layers offset from one another as in Fig. 4 (not shown). Details of insulating material and various values and dimensions are given in the Specification. Capacitor 12 surrounding the secondary is connected across it. A circuit for D.C. source, distributer and four transformers and sparking plugs is described (Fig. 1, not shown) (see Group XXVII). An evacuated capsule 31 of the type used in an aneroid barometer allows change of volume with temperature. The outer iron shell 14 has three or four layers of iron interposed with insulating foil.
