Abstract

1,163,379. Horseshoes. R. G. LITTLE. 3 May, 1968 [11 May, 1967], No. 21071/68. Heading AIM. A horseshoe moulded from flexible plastics material e.g. nylon is attachable by nails and adapted to resist pull-through thereof. As shown in Fig. 2 the nail-hole and nail are so dimensioned that not more than one third of the shank freely enters the hole. After complete insertion the nail is retained by lateral bearing pressures as well as longitudinal pressure of the nail head on the nailing groove surface 7. The nail-hole may effectively extend through the complete horseshoe thickness by providing integral buttresses 13 within the nailing groove, Fig. 5, in which case the nail-head is a tight fit therein to provide the lateral pressure and the nail shank may be a relatively free fit in the nail hole. The hoof face of the shoe may be provided with tread elements (16) Fig. 4 (not shown), e.g. pointed projections to reduce slippage between the shoe and a hoof.
