Abstract

1369316 Screw fastener covers TEXTRON Inc 6 Oct 1972 46243/72 Heading F2H A threaded fastener 10 is provided with a plastics or rubber cover 13 which encloses the fastener head except for a plurality of surfaces 16 left exposed for engagement with a tool. The head is of metal, being integral with the shank and of a stepped configuration to aid keying of the cover to the head, which keying may be facilitated by slots in the head. The cover may be moulded directly on to the metal head or may be formed separately. Various modifications are described so as to provide for example, four surfaces for tool engagement. In a further embodiment, the tool engagement surfaces are provided by a washer 28 which is keyed to head portion 26 and abutting head flange 27. The washer 28 is provided with slots to key the cover 39 to the head.
