Abstract

116,307. Anderson, D. April 5, 1917. Motor-cycles, tricars, and the like.-A motor equipment for fitting to a bicycle or other pedalpropelled vehicle comprises a frame which straddles the rear wheel and carries the motor, the drive being transmitted by chain and friction or clutch gearing. The motor o is carried by clips p on a frame c attached to the cycle frame members a, supporting-stays being provided. At the outer end of the frame c is a hub 3 driven by a chain v from the engine shaft r and driving a grooved pulley 6 mounted on a spring-controlled arm 8 and engaging a driving rim 11 on the wheel b. The arm 8 is controlled by a Bowden wire to move the pulley 6 out of engagement with the rim 11. In a modification, the rim 11 is replaced by a spur gear and the hub 3 is fitted with a clutch. The spur gear is attached to a spider, the arms of which are clipped to the spokes.
