Abstract
1,162,116. Machinery guards. WILMOT BREEDEN Ltd. 18 Sept., 1967 [19 Sept., 1966], No. 41667/66. Heading F2J. In a riveting machine, a guard device comprises U-shaped members 23, 24 secured to pivotally mounted arms 12, 13 which are moved from the guarding position to an inoperative position by a power operable device 20, against the action of a spring 17, and control means associated with the power operable device 20 which permit operation of the machine only when the U-shaped members 23, 24 occupy their guarding position. Arm 13 is mounted on a pivot 15 at one end and arm 12 is mounted on a pivot 14 intermediate its ends, the arms 12, 13 being interconnected by a link 16. An adjustable abutment 18 on the end of arm 12 engages the stem 19 of a piston and cylinder unit constituting the power operable device 20. A pneumatic valve is incorporated in the device 20 and controls the supply of air to the ram of the riveting machine. A foot-operated valve controls the guard and machine, and normally allows compressed air to be supplied to the unit 20. When this valve is operated, the unit 20 is exhausted thereby allowing spring 17 to close the guard members and effect actuation of the valve incorporated in the device 20 to permit the supply of air to the ram of the machine.
