[Also in Divisions F3 and H1] The detonator 65 and primercord charge in section J of a well pipe are exploded by pulling on a slick wire W of a detonator apparatus so as to move upward a pipe 35 carrying an electrical container 44 which eventually engages a stationary contact 38 in circuit with a battery (12), Fig. 2A (not shown), carried in the section 2A. The contacts are carried in members 39, 42 which are fast respectively with a stationary sleeve 40 and with the pipe 35 and enclosing an oil chamber 43. To suitably delay the action, the oil escapes, through a restriction (50a), Fig. 7 (not shown), in a check valve 50, into a flexible bellows 55. The detonator and charge are located in section 2 by a spring catch 70. Relative movement between parts of the apparatus is allowed for by a pin and slot connection 35c, 41. In the event of malpositioning of the charge, movement imparted through a jarring device " X," will move a tube 26 in a safety section 2B to sever a shear pin (29), Fig. 2B (not shown), and allow movement of the tube 26 relative to a severing member (32) to sever the electrical lead 25. In the form shown, the charge is carried by an extension 60 of the stationary sleeve 40 and is located by spring latching fingers 70 within a thicker-walled collar J if a joint which is to be released, so that damage to the thinner-walled well pipe T is reduced. In another embodiment, a conventional perforating charge (P, Fig. 6, not shown) is suspended by a cable from an extension (42, 57) of the movable pipe (35).
