Abstract

1,159,190. Inertia switches. A. E. FANES. 29 Aug., 1967 [1 Sept., 1966; 4 April. 1967], No. 39536/67. Heading H1N. On impact a ball 14 is dislodged from between supports 13, 15 and allows a contact 11 on a spiral leaf spring 10 to break with a contact 12 and make with an earthed contact 17 so as to earth terminal 7, the generator (21, Fig. 3), starter (24), lights (27) and spark plugs (28) and distributor (31) of the vehicle. On lowering the lower transparent section 2 of the housing from the section 3 by means of a nut 19 a reset leaf spring 18, moves beneath the spiral spring 10 and on raising the section 2 the reset spring 18 holds the contacts 11, 12 closed (Fig. 7). After the ball 14 has been reseated a rod (r, Fig. 7) inserted through a hole 2a pushes spring 18 from beneath spring 10. Support 15 is adjustable by a slotted screw 16.
