748,009. Electrical severing devices for use in parachutes. IRVING AIR CHUTE OF GREAT BRITAIN, Ltd. June 1, 1954 [July 10, 1953], No. 28268/55. Divided out of 747,971. Class 4. An electrical device for severing a reefing tie 2 surrounding rigging lines 1 of a parachute as described in Specification 747,971, comprises a tube 4 of insulating material secured to a line 1 by a fabric housing 5, the tube being apertured for the tie 2 to pass therethrough. An electrical resistance wire 7 is mounted on spring plates 8, 9 which hold it firmly in contact with the tie 2, the wire being connected by leads 10, 11 to a storage battery so that, when desired, a circuit may be eompleted in order to melt or burn through the tie 2 and release the lines 1.
