Abstract
1,142,844. Lamp holders associated with switches. LINOLITE Ltd. 2 March, 1966 [2 Dec., 1964], No. 49064/64. Heading H2E. A safety device for use with a double ended electric lamp tube holder comprises a switch, both contacts of which have to be moved to the closed position before the circuit is complete. The lower contact 22 of Fig. 1 is actuated by a square camming surface 32 of a conventional pull-on switch, the contact being shown in the closed position. The upper contact 20 is actuated by a plunger 28 operated by insertion of the tube 10, the contact 20 being shown in the open position. A movable shield (not shown) is slid into position when the lamp is inserted both to protect the end of the tube and maintain the upper switch contact in its operative position. In the embodiment of Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) the contact for the lamp is in the form of a conical spring (46) which at its larger end is secured to a hinge member (52) which is provided with a cam face so that when the lamp is inserted it engages this cam face and moves the hinge member downwards thus causing the end (48) of the spring to move downwards to engage a contact (50) connected to the mains terminal (58), thus closing the circuit.
