Abstract
1,161,295. Tubular heat exchangers. BORGWARNER CORP. 19 June, 1967 [29 June, 1966], No. 28182/67. Heading F4S. To avoid galvanic corrosion when an aluminium header is secured to a copper or brass tube plate in a heat exchanger used in the cooling system for an internal combustion engine the edge 38 of the flange 37 of the tube plate 31 is enclosed in a resilient seal 57 to avoid contact between the header and the tube plate. Bolts 87 compress the seal between the header and a sealing ring 81 and are placed in a T- shaped slot inside the periphery of the header thereby eliminating the usual external securing flanges and also reducing the overall width of the heat exchanger. A baffle plate 49 having holes 51 is provided in the header. The seal 57 may be of neoprene or a plastic and is electrically non-conductive.
