Abstract
1302407 Tubular heat exchangers SOC ANON DES USINES CHAUSSON 3 Feb 1970 [3 Feb 1969] 5209/70 Heading F4S Heat exchanger tubes 1 extend through clearance holes in an end plate 3 and through corresponding holes in a flexible material (e.g. rubber) plate 5, the latter being clamped by a support plate 7 against the end plate 3 such as to press the flexible material aginst the tube walls to seal the tube apertures in plate 3 and prevent fluid leakage therethrough. As shown in Fig. 1 a header box 10 is mounted on the tube plate to form a header compartment, all the header elements being clamped together using claws 11, and the elements being shaped as shown to apply sealing pressure at the periphery of the header and around the tube ends. The strengthening ribs 8 on the support plate 7 may be extended to the inner surface of the box 10 (Fig. 3) or alternatively (Fig. 2) ribs on the header box may extend to the support plate. Several other modifications in detail are illustrated (Figs. 4-8) all intended to provide sealing pressure at the header periphery and around the tube ends. The tube plate and/or header box may be of metal (e.g. aluminium) or a synthetic plastics material. Or the parts may be of iron, coated with a non-ferrous metal or with a synthetic resin. The tubes 1 may be of circular, oval or rectangular cross-section. They may be of brass, copper or aluminium; and fins 2 or corrugated strip material may be secured in position by mechanically or hydraulically expanding the tubes.
