[Also in Division A3] A skirt is produced on a straight-bar knitting-machine by knitting front 1 and back 2 panels suitably fashioned by narrowing or widening, shown at 10, 11, depending on the direction of knitting and subsequently sewing the edges together. The top of the skirt is provided with a waist band 5 integrally or separately knitted and secured to the top, the band being a tubular cover 17 to accommodate an elastic band 18 or being knitted to form a stretch fabric banding. The bottom 6 of the skirt may be formed as a rib welt or may be hemmed. The waist band may be formed with two flaps 22, 23 one for securing it to the top of the knitted skirt and the other for attaching a lining 24. The waist band may be separately knitted on a flat machine.
