Abstract

1,243,673. Garments. W. W. ARTZT. 19 Aug., 1968 [27 March, 1968], No. 39554/68. Heading A3V. A garment has underarm shields 25 of polypropylene fabric comprised of back and front portions 12a, 13a and a neck opening 15 and sleeve portions 14a; the underarm portions which extend to the back and to the front are sewn into the inside of the garment by the continuous seams 19 and 28a 28b. The garment is made from a flat fabric blank (10) Fig. 2 (not shown) cut from a flattened tube of circularly knitted fabric, and with the shields superposed on the corresponding part of the blank (10) Fig. 2. The peripheral edges of each shield 28a, 28b are sewn with a flat lock stitch to the blank which is then folded along the line (X/X) Fig. 2 and the edges 17 sewn together to form continuous side seams 19. The seams are sewn with polypropylene thread and the body and shields are both knitted so as to be relatively stretchable in the lateral direction, the body being loosely knitted cotton and the shields being tightly knitted polypropylene. The garment is completed by the addition of a knitted collarette 20, cuffs 21 and by the hemming at 22.
