Abstract

1,161,054. Feeding sheets; wrapper feeding apparatus. MEAD CORP. 25 Aug., 1966 [25 Feb., 1966], No. 38250/66. Headings B8C and B8R. A device for separating sheets 5, Fig. 1, from a stack in a hopper 3 comprises sheet driving elements 18, Figs. 1 and 8, rotating with a shaft, an elongated driven element 19 pivoted to each element 18 at 20 and carrying a suction cup 27 and a cam follower 21, and a stationary cam 13 having a track 24 shaped as shown in Fig. 8 and engaging the follower 21. Suction from a source 34 is applied intermittently to the caps by means of two cavities 37A, 37B joined by a bleed port 37C in a stationary disc 35, Fig. 6A, and cavities 39 in a rotating disc 36, Fig. 6B. Each cup 27 follows the path 28, 29, 32 shown in Fig. 8, resulting in the rapid withdrawal of a sheet past a detent 3A and a crossbar 3B. The sheet is then deposited on articles C to be wrapped, Fig. 1, or engaged by lugs on chains 45, Fig. 9, and carried horizontally over the article.
