1465610 Wrapping flat articles IZDATELSTVO IZVESTIA SOVETOV DEPUTATOV TRUDYASCHIKHSYA SSSR 11 April 1974 [13 April 1973] 16066/74 Addition to 1282257 Heading B8C In stack wrapping apparatus of the type disclosed in Specification 1,282,257, means are provided to prevent crinkling of the stacks during the tucking of the first free end of the wrapping paper under the stacks. Such crinkling would occur when the stacks comprise a limited number of articles, say one or two newspapers. In the apparatus of Specification 1,282,257, a wrapper 6 is passed over a stack and applied around the top and sides of the stack by movement of the stack into a frame 4. The projecting front free end of the wrapper is then tucked under the stack by movement of an endless rol'er conveyer 3 after which the rear free end of the wrapper is tucked under the stack by movement of the stack and frame on to a receiving roller table where the projecting ends of the wrapper are folded around the ends of the stack. In order to prevent crinkling during tucking of the front free end, a pair of doublearmed levers 10 are provided which are pivoted, prior to the tucking operation, to a position under the front free end of the wrapper. Thus the wrapper is folded during the tucking operation around the levers rather than the front edge of the stack. Each lever is actuated in time with the conveyer 3 by an eccentric cam disc 16 carried by a sprocket 19 driven by the drive 12 of the conveyer. The disc is engaged by a roller 15 mounted on one end of the lever the roller being kept in contact with the cam by a biasing spring 18.
