Abstract

1,161,025. Screw closures. M. B. STULL. 26 June, 1967, No. 29460/67. Heading B8T. A screw closure for collapsible tubes and similar containers 14 comprises a tubular body member 10 which has a collar 18 to fit over the container neck as shown. The member 10 comprises a body portion having double external screw threads 24, 26 of rounded section, and an orifice portion 28. A screw cap member 12 has internal screw threads 32, 34 corresponding to the threads 24, 26 on the body portion. Either or both of the members 10, 12 may be of yieldable plastics. When the cap 12 is screwed on to the body 10, internal ridges 38 on the member 12 ride up the surface 44 of the orifice portion 28 restraining the screwing-on action before passing a shoulder 40 on the body member 10 and entering a groove 42, when the turning of the cap 12 becomes easy for the last fraction of a turn until lugs (54), Fig. 3 (not shown), on the cap 12 meet stop faces 52 on the body 10. The faces 52 are the ends of camming ramps (48), Fig. 2 (not shown), along which the lugs (54) travel causing the ridges 38 to be forced past the shoulder 40 when the cap 12 is unscrewed. When the cap 12 is in place, the shoulder 40 engages a sealing surface 60 on the cap, and a further seal is formed by a yieldable annular flange 62 in the cap 12 which closes the orifice portion 28 directly.
