Abstract
1,160,452. Oscillatory hydraulic actuators. MACTAGGART SCOTT & CO. Ltd. and R.C. RUSSELL. March 14, 1967 [March 16, 1966], No. 11491/66. Heading F1F. An oscillating vane hydraulic actuator comprises a rotor 10, Fig. 1, having enlarged diameter piston-like heads 11 and a stator 14 forming therebetween an annular chamber with semicircular cross-section ends, at least one vane 23 carried by the rotor and at least one abutment 22 carried by the stator having ends complementary to the chamber ends. The piston-like ends are journalled in sleeves 20 and encircled by sealing rings 21 which abut the ends of the sleeves and shoulders 17 formed on the stator or alternatively on a separate bush 16. Axially-extending dove tail-shaped slots 25 in the inner ends of the pistonlike heads 11 and similar shaped slots 27 in the shoulders 17 are fitted with packing blocks which engage the ends of the vane and abutment and also endless lip seals 24, Fig.2, carried by the vane and abutment for sealing the vane with respect to the stator and the abutment with respect to the rotor. Any leakage fluid passes to the outside through a duct 26. There may be any number of vanes and abutments. Alternatively member 10 with the piston-like heads may be the stator and the member 14 the rotor.
