An oscillating vane actuator operating, e.g., a ship's stabilizer comprises a rotatable housing 12, Fig. 1, and a fixed core 10, secured to a shaft 11 and formed with an annular recess to provide a pressure chamber 13 within which abutments 25, Fig.2, fixed to the core and vanes 26 fixed to the housing oscillate with respect to each other. Bearing rings 14, 15 between the core and housing are shrunk on to the core, with the ring 15 shrunk first on to the core into abutment with a collar 17 formed on the core. The ring 14 is thenapplied to the core in a reciprocating-rolling motion to aposition such that a split-ring 16 may be inserted into a groove in the core 10. As described with the core stationary and the housing movable an annular groove 21 and passages 23 supply hydraulic pressure fluid to the chamber and grooves 24 and an annular groove 22 exhaust it therefrom. The bearing- rings 14, 15 may be secured to the core by a layer 20 of oil-resistant, synthetic-resin adhesive. Seals 18 with lip rings 19 are mounted above and below the bearing rings 14, 15. If the core member is movable and the housing stationary the supply and exhaust of hydraulic pressure fluid is effected through the housing.
