Abstract
842,304. Oscillating-vane pumps or motors. NORSWORTHY, C. L. Oct. 3, 1958 [Oct. 15, 1957], No. 31682/58. Class 110 (2). Packing means for one or more oscillating vanes 13, and the end flanges 14, 16 of a rotor A comprise continuous strips 31 . . . 35 arranged as shown in Fig. 5. The rotor is in two parts secured together by screws 11 and held on a driving shaft C provided with splined ends 24, 25. Pressure fluid is fed into the rotor from one or more inlet ports 47 in the casing and is led to the seals, exerting pressure on them to increase the sealing effect. Pressure fluid is also led to spaces between the rotor ends and the adjacent casing ends. The seal rings are of 0-ring cross-section and of soft compressible material, or, as in Fig. 8 (not shown), the packing may be of thin metal ribbon of spring steel. Working fluid is admitted to, or removed from, chambers 38, 38<SP>1</SP> by way of ports 49.
