1,059,030. Oscillatory vane fluid-pressure machines. DOWTY HYDRAULIC UNITS Ltd. Nov. 30, 1964 [Nov.29, 1963; Feb. 26, 1964], No. 47277/63 and 8028/64. Heading F1F. An oscillatory vane fluid-pressure machine comprising a cylindrical casing (11), Fig. 1, Provisional Specification (not shown), having at least one inwardly directed fixed vane (25) and an oscillatory rotor (18) having at least one outwardly directed vane (20), Fig. 2 (not shown), which together form at least two fluid chambers which may be alternately pressurized, includes sealing rings 40, Fig. 3, at each end of the rotor between the shaft and casing end plates (12), (13) subjected to fluid-pressure derived from the chamber or chambers under pressure through non-return valves formed by a lip on one or other of endless rings 27a, 27b, forming a sealing means 27 surrounding the fixed vane 25. The pressure fluid passes through passages 34, 35 and spreads the limbs of the V-shaped rings 40 to enhance the sealing of these rings. The rings 27a, 27b may be replaced by a single ring of substantially quadrilateral shape which is deformable from pressure in the pressurized chamber to uncover the passage 34. In another embodiment, Fig. 1 of Cognate Provisional Specification 8028/64 (not shown), the sealing ring (127) of rectangular crosssection surrounding the fixed vane (125) is formed with a hemispherical indent (127a) located opposite to a passage (132).
