A gun barrel is made of a precipitationhardeneable, non-magnetic steel having the following percentage composition: - C 0À5 - 0À8 Si 0À05 - 0À8 Mn 9 - 18 Cr 2 - 6 Ni 7 - 11 V 0À6 - 1 Fe the balance The steel is solution treated at 1150‹ C. for 1 hour, water quenched and aged at 650‹ C. for 8-10 hours.
