A stress corrosion cracking resistant stainless steel comprises: C 0À01-0À1% Cr 13 - 25% Cu 0À5 - 5% Mn 0À01 - 3% Ni 7-20% Si 2-6% and optionally small amounts of N and S, the balance being Fe, and is so compounded that the ratio is no greater than 1À06.
