Abstract

[Also in Divisions E1, F2 and G3] A coal face conveyer c is supported on legs 13 each having a foot 14 and a piston portion 12. When the conveyer is moved bodily over uneven ground, a pendulum 25 associated with each leg swings about its pivot 23 and rocks a bell-crank 21 to displace a valve 18 which extends or retracts the leg to maintain the conveyer horizontal. The pendulum is adjustably secured to the bell-crank at 26 to enable the conveyer to be maintained at any desired angle. In an alternative embodiment, the pendulum actuates the wiper of a potentiometer 27 (Fig. 6) in a network including a reference potentiometer 28 and an initial balance potentiometer 29. The output current is amplified by a transistorized differential amplifier 31 and fed to a differential relay 32 which energizes one of a pair of solenoid valves controlling the leg. In Figs. 9 and 10, a coal cutting machine 35 has a cutter drum 36 and is movable along the conveyer c. The machine has a datum leg 37 and three adjustable legs 38-40 controlled by a single pendulumactuated valve 49 having flow ports 41-46 connected in pairs to the legs, and supply and exhaust chambers 50, 51.
