Abstract
1,156,587. Ships stabilizing tank installations. LICENTIA PATENT - VERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. 13 Oct., 1967 [13 Oct., 1966], No. 46799/67. Heading B7M. A device for rapidly changing the level of liquid in a stabilizing tank installation includes at least one inlet below the level of the liquid for a pressurized gas and at least one closable outlet at each side of the ship through which liquid and/or air escapes. In Fig. 1 lateral tanks 10, 11 connected by a passage 12 and an air equalization passage 13 closable by a valve 15, pressurized gas (in liquid form) is admitted from a container 16 via pipelines 17 and valves 18 or 19 to tank 10 or 11 to flow into the liquid in the tank to alter the level thereof, the valve 15 being closed, the liquid flowing into the other tank and displacing air which escapes through an open valve 20 or 21. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2 (which is also described with reference to Figs. 3a and 3b-not shown-for a Flume type installation) pressurized gas admitted through the valve 18 (or 19) expels water from the tank 10 (or 11) through a valve 28 (or (29), the passage 13 remaining open and outlets for the escape of air being closed.
