Abstract

1,155,850. Elastic yarn: stretch fabrics. CELANESE CORP. 14 Dec., 1966 [27 Dec., 1965], No. 55916/66. Headings D1F, D1S and D1W. Process for the production of an elastic yarn or fabric comprises wrapping or twisting an elastomeric strand with an undrawn strand of synthetic polymer filaments, optionally weaving or knitting a fabric with the composite yarn thus formed, stretching the yarn or the fabric in the direction or directions of the yarn sufficiently to cold (i.e. at a temperature below that at which the polymer softens) draw the filaments, allowing the yarn or fabric at least partially to relax so that the synthetic filament strand form loops about the elastomeric strand, and then heat-setting the synthetic filaments. The elastomeric strand may be of rubber or spandex, and the other strand of a polyester, a polyamide, or an acrylic polymer.
