Abstract

1,154,803. Interlacing filaments. BEMBERG S.p.A. 8 June, 1967 [13 June, 1966], No. 26460/67. Heading D1F. A method of treating a thread bundle constituted by a plurality of elementary threads comprises subjecting the bundle to a gaseous stream while sonic oscillations are produced in the gas, the sonic oscillations having a frequency spectrum between 15,000 and 30,000 cycles/sec and this frequency spectrum containing a frequency band the maximum intensity of which is at least 115 decibels. The pressure of the gas stream is between 3.2 and 6 atmospheres. Apparatus for carrying out the method comprises a nozzle 4 with a circular outlet opening 3 through which compressed gas is fed, a resonance chamber 6 coaxially in front of the nozzle 4 and provided with a circular inlet opening, and two thread guides 2, 2' guiding the thread bundle across the common axis of the nozzle. and resonance chamber, the resonance chamber being constituted by a blend hole 5 having a diameter of 1-2 mm and a length of 1-5 mm and the diameter of the nozzle outlet being equal to the diameter of the blind hole. The length of the nozzle is preferably between 2.5 and 4 mm. The nozzle outlet' is preferably spaced a distance 1.6-2.3 mm from the resonance chamber inlet. The nozzle 4 and resonance chamber 6 are preferably rigidly connected as at 7, the upper surface 8 of the connecting rod 7 being at least 1.5 mm below the common axis of the nozzle and resonance chamber.
