Abstract

1,235,573. Slub yarns; process. NIPPON RAYON CO. Ltd. 26 June, 1969 [27 June, 1968 (2)], No. 32483/69. Headings D1F and D1W. A process for producing slub yarn comprises the steps of jetting a compressive gas into a hood 9 to deflect at the bottom of the hood and to escape backwardly, feeding a multifilament yarn in the deflected stream of gas to fold filaments back on themselves at the bottom of the hood, and withdrawing the yarn from the deflected stream of gas through a hole 16 in the hood at a rate at least 0.5% less than the rate of feed, so that the yarn passes through the deflected stream of gas in a countercurrent direction to form slubs composed of filament loops consolidated into the yarn by filament entanglement. The centre of pressure of the jet is preferably displaced from the centre axis of the hood. In a preferred embodiment, the compressed gas is fed into the hood 9 by means of a nozzle 7 having a hole 8 for the entry of yarn into the nozzle for the passage to the bottom of the hood. The yarn may be false-twisted after passage through the hood, the false-twist being effected by means of a fluid vortex jet or preferably by means of an eccentrically mounted friction disk.
