Abstract

1390822 False twisting; open end spinning SCHUBERT & SALZER MASCHINENFABRIK AG 29 March 1972 [30 March 1971] 14866/72 Heading DID A rotating thread clamp comprises two coaxial thread guides 25, 35, at least one of which being displaceable relative to the other along the axis of rotation of the clamp, resilient means 61 pressing the thread guides together and a thread clamping member 5 arranged in a seat in the thread path between the two guides. The thread guides 25, 35 are separable by a fluid medium being fed to or withdrawn from a first space 50 which surrounds a sleeve 6 rotatably locking the thread guides 25, 35 together. A second space 52 communicates with the first space 50 via at least one opening in the sleeve 6. In operation the thread is clamped by ball 5 against the seats in the thread guides 25, 34. When air or liquid is withdrawn from the space 50 the guides separate and the ball 5 drops out of the thread path. The thread clamp may form part of an electrostatic open end spinning apparatus (Fig. 2 not shown). The guides (71, 75) are separated by compressed air and an air jet from bore (76) blows the ball 5 out of the thread path. In Fig. 3 (not shown) a yarn breakage detector (45) detects absence of passing thread from the open end spinning chamber and causes pneumatic pressure to separate the thread guides (8, 82). The ball 5 rolls from the thread path under gravity when the guides are separated.
