Abstract

1,154,550. Balanced modulators. SIEMENS A.G. 23 March, 1967 [25 March, 1966], No. 13704/67. Heading H3R. A balanced modulator comprises four transistors 1-4 connected as shown, the carrier frequency being supplied to the bases from transformer 6 through individual resistances 15-18 and the modulation being supplied from transformer 5 through resistances 21-24. The collectors of the transistors are connected in pairs to opposite ends of the primary winding of the output transformer 7, a centre tap of this winding being connected to one end of a potential source 8 to the other end of which is connected to a centre tap of transformer 6 and through resistances 9 and 10 to the two pairs of emitters; a variable resistance 11 connects the two pairs of emitters. The four transistors are preferably formed as an integral unit and may be arranged in the form of a square on a common baseplate. The transistor should have a high threshold voltage in the base-emitter region, and may be silicon transistors.
