Abstract

1,154,433. Bowden mechanisms. S. J. CLARK (CABLES) Ltd. 29 Nov., 1967 [8 Feb., 1967], No. 6011/67. Heading B7E. [Also in Divisions E2 and F2] Relates to an end fitting for a flexible cable, e.g. a Bowden cable, comprising a control rod 4, for connection to the cable 2, non-rotatably slidable in a tubular guide 5 adapted to be inserted axially in an aperture 10 of a mounting panel 3. An end flange 8 on the guide 5 engages one face of the panel 3 and resilient lugs 14 extending at right angles to the guide axis are adapted for insertion through portions 17 of the aperture 10 and subsequent rotation behind the panel to a locking position in which detents 16 on the lugs or aperture surround engage recesses or slots 18 in the aperture surround or the lugs. A step 9 on the guide adjacent the flange 8 engages the circular arc portions 11 of the aperture 10 boundary. The lugs 14 are formed on a plastics or sheet metal member 13 which fits on to a square cross-sectioned portion 12 of the guide 5, lugs 15 on the guide retaining the member 13 against axial movement. Inclined edges 19 of the lugs 14 facilitate rotation of the guide 5, with the member 13, into the locked position. A sheath 7 for the cable 2 is connected to the end of the guide 5. The rod 4 carries an operating knob 6.
