Abstract

1,026,829. Refrigerators. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Dec. 15, 1964 [Jan. 9, 1964], No. 51020/64. Heading F4H. A resiliently flexible breaker strip for a refrigerator cabinet comprises a front edge portion 29 which engages a flange 19 of the outer shell 11, an intermediate arched portion 28 and a bifurcated rear portion having limbs 31, 32 adapted to engage with the inner liner 12. The front edge 21 of the latter is provided with an outwardly directed flange 26 having a rearwardly directed leg 27. When the liner 12 and shell 11 are in the relative position shown, the junction of flange 26 and leg 27 engages in a notch at the outer end of link 32, and the outer end of the breaker strip portion 29 abuts a rearwardly directed wall portion 22 of the outer shell. If, due to manufacturing tolerances, the spacing between the liner and shell is greater in the transverse direction and less in the rearward direction than that shown, then this is accommodated by spacing the end of portion 29 from wall portion 22 and allowing the flange 26 to bear against an intermediate portion 34 of the limb 32 (Fig. 4, not shown). The breaker strip is formed of a styrene acrylonitrile copolymer and the insulation 18 between lines and shell may be glass wool or polyurethane foam.
