Abstract

1361112 Bowden mechanisms BRITISH WIRE PRODUCTS Ltd 23 March 1973 [24 March 1972] 13872/72 Heading F2K An end fitting of the outer sheath C of a Bowden type push-pull cable assembly is formed as a snap-on type connector for rapid and simple attachment of the sheath C to a casing, bulkhead or dashboard facia panel &c. and comprises a plastics collar 2 having at one end split expandable jaws 7 and being mounted on a spigot 4 of a cable sheath plastics abutment 1 with the jaws 7 located in a groove 6 of the abutment 1, the arrangement permitting the cable end fitting to be readily pushed into an aperture in a dashboard panel A such that application of pressure to the abutment 1 is transmitted to the collar 2 by engagement of flange 8 thereon with the panel A to cause the jaws 7 to be expanded i.e. snapped-out of groove 6 and ride over the shoulder on to spigot 4 to the snapped-on assembled position of Fig. 3. The secured cable may be easily released from its assembled position in the panel aperture by reversing the assembly movement above of the abutment 1 and collar 2, whereby the jaws 7 contract back into the groove 6 to release the cable abutment 1 from the panel A.
