Abstract

1,031,777. Grommets. CARR FASTENER CO. Ltd. Sept. 3, 1963 [Oct. 29, 1962], No. 40851/62. Heading F2H. [Also in Division H2] A grommet comprises two parts, a resilient socket part 1 (Figs. 1-3, not shown) which is secured in the aperture of a support 2 and a sleeve-like member 2 (Figs. 4-6, not shown) which grips the cable and which is received in the bore of the socket part, means being provided on each part to lock together the two parts when the cable-gripping part is inserted into the socket. The socket part 1, moulded from plastics material, has an internally tapered inner wall 3 and a thinner, outer wall 4 around it, spaced apart by ribs 7. The resilient socket part 1 is pushed into the aperture in a panel, such that the shoulder 8 formed on its outer wall, snaps under the edge of the aperture, and the flange 5 abuts the other face. The tapered sleeve part 2 is moulded from plastics material, to form two complementary parts 11, 11a hinged along one side edge by an integral web 12. The sleeve is mounted around a cable b (Fig. 7, not shown) and is pushed into the socket part 1, the lugs 15 on the sides of the sleeves travelling along recesses 10 in the inner surface of the outer wall 4. The sleeve is rotated through a small angle to cause the lugs 15 to enter the bayonet slots 9 of the socket, and lock the sleeve in position. In another embodiment, the outer wall 4a, Fig. 9 (not shown), is formed in segments to allow greater flexibility.
