Abstract
1,154,391. Delivering and feeding sheets; conveyers &c. A. F. SHIELDS. 17 Oct., 1966 [27 Dec., 1965], No. 46347/66. Headings B8A and B8R. Delivering sheets.-Conveyers. Sheets are delivered to the bottom of a stack 14, Fig. 1, by conveyer means 11 including three laterally spaced lower belts 19 and three corresponding upper belts 20, 22, the central belt terminating forwardly at a roller 41 and the side belts 22 extending to. a roller 45, Fig. 4, which can be set in a lower position shown in full lines so as to engage a sheet almost as far as lift screws 13, or in an upper position shown in chain lines so that the belts do not hold the sheets beyond the roller 41. The upper portion is used for long sheets. Each sheet is fed on to a conveyer 26 and against a front plate 15, while lift screws 13 raise the rear ends of the sheets to allow the feed of new sheets below them. The plate 15, Fig. 5, is formed with a forwardly staggered upper part 15b, and the surface engaging the sheets between upper and lower parts 15b, 15a is a rotating roller 63, which relieves the lower part of the stack of the weight of sheets above the lower part 15a. A reciprocating member 49 correspondingly shaped to the plate 15 jogs the rear of the stack. Feeding sheets.-Sheets in a stack 14 are separated therefrom and fed in batches to a conveyer 18 by vertically adjustable reciprocating pusher members 85. The rear ends of the sheets in the stack are raised by lift screws 13 and the front ends by the roller 63. When the delivery of a batch of sheets to the stack is completed, the rear ends continue to be lifted, and the front of the stack is then manually lifted by a roller 73. The members 85 are separately adjustable in feed direction to allow for separation of sheets having variably shaped rear edges.
